How about an educated politician with a Masters Diploma in Government ?

Hello My Tifosi Chums,

The hurricane Dennis passed my town without much damage. In between this, a killer work schedule and my personal life taking a exponential downward spiral, I have not had time to post.

Its a fact that most politicians in India are not educated. Most of them are conferred with a honorary degree. But things are about to change. The Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research has a new school. The MIT School of Government (MITSOG).

The best part is that the school is its chairman and dean, Mr. T.N.Seshan. He claims this to be the first institute in Asia to offer a full-fledged post graduate course in social and political leadership with a Masters Diploma in Government. How cool is a course like that ? This is the first time I have heard of a course with such a name.

I have a deep respect for Mr. Seshan, he took on the politicians and flipped them around like broccoli in stir-fry pan. It was amazing. The guy is practical and he welcomed booth capturing. His response was "India is the largest democracy and a miniscule percentage of booth capturing shows the frustration of people, nothing to be worried about".

Good Luck Mr. Seshan and if I get a chance, I might come by and check out the classes ;-).

You can read an article in the Hindu at http://www.hindu.com/2005/07/12/stories/2005071209120100.htm

The MISSOG website is here http://www.mitsog.com/. Check out the dean's message.

Looks like things are happening for good.

One of the crazy things Mr.Sheshan did long ago, increased my respect towards him. When he was working in the environment ministry in Delhi, he bluntly refused to give away a piece of land to the defence ministry, citing environment hazard. They needed it to build a military quarters. Within months he was transferred to a position in defence ministry. He fought tooth and nail, got the same piece of land to build the military quarters. (All other places available had greater risks). While it may look crazy, he just did his DUTY. (Exactly what Krishna told Arjuna?)

..ok..ok.. I know.. this blog is about governance and not abt Mr.Sheshan. Couldn't resist writing this..

and with this degree, its not like "Everone lives happily ever after.." Imagine two Mr.Sheshans in the Environment and Defense Ministry at the same time??

Chaos continues!!
