Fashion Shows - No no the real ones

I can totally understand REAL fashion shows. The ones in which designers come out with new designs, looks and things that will be in vogue. But those fashion shows by students....

Just like when Red bull decided to have the cast from Star Wars in the pit lane in Monaco, which somehow made Formula 1 a different kind of show, students in my opinion pollute the meaning of a Fashion show.

A fashion show in its truest sense is for professionals, who have come up with a new concept or idea and have a place to showcase it, either for fame or for some commercial value. Students on the other hand walk down the ramp wearing clothes that I would wear to wedding (a nicely embellished kurta) or something that I wear to college (my faded jean and thirt that says Spot the Indian and the sun glasses of course) everyday. This is not a fashion show, this is a bunch of wannabe kids who are showing off their wardrobe and to make a competition out of it is equating it to who has the best clothes and who has the coolest walk in front of a hundred people.

Get real people, stop screwing around with the real thing.

Dei,

Give the college kids a break da. Thats what we did when we were in school too.

I dont think the fashion shows (even the real ones) is of any use. I have been awake several nights watching FTV for years now..
I havent seen anyone wearing those dresses on the road till now.It never set up a fashion trend of any sorts....

I think its the easiest way for the fashion companies to spend their black money:)

I disagree, Real fashion shows are like those giant exibitions, it is a show case event for new designs. We all know why you were watching FTV, but honestly, if you go to a fashion show in a place like NYC, the audience is not the regular public, they are reps from different companies like GAP and Banana Republic who buy clothes from these shows.

So I disagree that real fashion shows are useless. Now what you see of FTV is a different thing, It is big companies like D&G who are showing off their "concept car" if you will. Most of that stuff does not make it to the street, well expcet of the red carpet maybe or the superbowl.

Dei,

Its still the same thing. The fashion shows in NYC is all about the "Red carpet" and the people on it more than anything else.

I agree companies like Gap and Banana Republic sponsor it. But the dresses they wear are so ridiculous, nothing close to the ones you see in shops.

I wonder if the pants and shirts we wear now were ever created by these fashion designers in one of these red carpet shows.

Anyways I was stressing more on the Indian fashion shows. Rohith Bal(bahl..baal.. who ever he is), Ive seen several shows exhibiting his creations..they are total bull shit da.

All those long nights.., did you ever care to take a look at the dress?

Karthik, you do have a point. Budden aren't our course projects similar too? I will eat my words if all the students invent their project works.

Can we say, these shows are like Deva bringing hindi/english meesic to the tamil crowd?
